3D Scanning

The process

Picture
3D scanning is the process of collecting digital data, shape and possibly color, of complex objects with a scanning system. The collected data can then be used to make a very accurate digital model. Unlike a CMM, which only inspects discrete points, 3D scanning can supply you with the complete digital model data for many diverse downstream uses including reverse engineering, quality inspection, and the resolution of manufacturing related process issues.

What 3D scanning can do for you

  • Document as-built manufacturing modifications
  • Measure part dimensions
  • Acquire geometry for reverse engineering
  • Ensure assembly fit
  • Process capability studies
  • Produce rapid prototype data
  • Document wear and predict end of life
  • Identify part distortion, deflection, warpage or wear
  • Determine shrink factors or scale parts
  • Identify tooling errors
  • Find deviations and prepare weld repair map
  • Identify areas in and out of tolerance
  • Root cause analysis
